Wastewater

Customers of Castle Pines Village Metropolitan District receive wastewater treatment services from the East Plum Creek Regional Wastewater Treatment Facility owned by the Plum Creek Water Reclamation Authority (PCWRA). Wastewater from residences is transported via a network of underground sewer pipes to the treatment facility located along Highway 85, just south of Happy Canyon Road.

This regional facility currently treats wastewater for multiple communities, including The Village at Castle Pines, Castle Pines North, and the Town of Castle Rock.

The treatment process begins with the removal of large solids and heavy grit materials. The wastewater then enters a secondary treatment process using activated sludge, which helps break down organic matter. Treated wastewater, or effluent, then flows into one of two treatment basins. From the basins, the treated effluent can either:

  • Be reused as irrigation water for nearby golf courses, or
  • Undergo tertiary treatment before being safely discharged into East Plum Creek.

Effluent from the facility consistently meets and exceeds the discharge quality standards required by the State of Colorado, as outlined in the Authority's discharge permit.
